On September 19 the new team of First Year Missionaries flew in after their week of training in Gainesville, Georgia.  Over the past few days they have been getting to know the city and their neighbors.  Last week they all chose their internship locations after spending time in Listening Prayer, and this week they will begin their WOW ministry (Walking on Water, which is their time to pray and minister in the local colonias).  I’ll let them tell you in their words what the Lord has been doing during their time here so far.

Last week we spent a lot of time in prayer in regards to what the Lord will have us do…. I am working at the hospital with two other teammates… it was the one thing I would have said that I didn’t want to do…but i felt the Lord tell me to go and it is definitely going to be hard but I know that God will move and use me.  We visited two times and then officially started last friday and spent time talking to one man who was going to have surgery for something involving his lungs… its hard to understand hospital/surgery terminology in spanish… but we had an amazing time getting to know him and his mom! – Laura

God has been showing me so much this week during our quite time. It’s pretty amazing how much he wants to connect with us, we just have to let him. We started our internships friday and it was interesting. I am at a private school that goes from first to ninth grade and on friday myself and two other girls on my team were with me in the first grade class.  the kids were crazy and it made it harder because they are still in the process of learning English so it was somewhat hard communicating with them but it was tons of fun. I can not wait to get to know them better and to kick into the program full blast. God is amazing! – Ifeoma

I called my folks and told them that I was going to jail (the shock value was priceless with my Mom).  I actually am, to minister to female inmates (only!) there.  The first day was incredible.  We met an inmate there who´s been a Christian for about as long as I have (2 years) and she was such an inspiration.  We prayed with her for her encouragement and walked around to see who else was out and about.  – Jill

We are going through a book called “The Art of Listening Prayer”- and I mentioned how we had learned about it in my last entry- but this type of communication with God is completely revitalizing my relationship with Him.  Its so cool.  When we first did listening prayer at training camp, I felt incredibly presumptuous about writing down things the Lord was saying to me- but His words to me this week have been so clear that I would have to intentionally try to block Him out to not receive what He has for me.  So we were instructed to do listening prayer about where God would have us do our internships, and I had planned on doing the women’s and children’s shelter, but He told me pretty clearly that I needed to spend my time at the prison.  That was especially hard to follow through with after we went to the shelter and I immediately fell in love with the kids there.  But, as I’ve learned in the past (in realizing He wanted me in Mexico, for example) – even if I’m not excited about the specific thing I’m being called to do, there’s reason enough to be excited that He has a particular purpose for me there.  – Lauren
